Funded by the 2022 City of Toronto Peace Projects, scholaRLY - “Rexdale’s Limitless Youth” is a grassroots, youth-led academic research incubator for 5 racialized, low-income youth in Rexdale interested in exploring academic research.
Through 3 months of community-centered, anti-oppressive, and intersectional workshops and mentorship, participants (called Youth Peer Researchers) will conduct a small-scale systematic literature review on a topic of interest, lead a small-scale project in the Rexdale community, and learn how to succeed as emerging, racialized researchers.
In addition to providing introductory research training, this project conducts a community based, mixed-methods research study investigating the barriers/ facilitators of Rexdale youth to higher education, and the role of alternative, equity-centered programming in supporting this.
